Marching against Monsanto

On Saturday a few dozen cheerful demonstrators, some clad in vegetable and cow costumes, hit Fry Blvd at Veterans’ Park to draw attention to the importance of food labeling. There were honks and thumbs up for the group from some of the passing cars.

“That’s all we want, labeling. How simple is that?” said Steve Schmitt, out for the march.

Buena runner heads to Western New Mexico

Newly minted Buena grad Joe Schaff was one of the first runners to fully embrace the Colts’ long distance coach Roger Bristow’s team unity ethos of “pulling the rope.” It just so happened that on the other end of the rope that kept Buena runners united in their conquests for Schaaf was a full ride athletic scholarship to run long distance for Division II Western New Mexico University. 

Schaff finalized his commit to run for the Mustangs just as his high school career concluded.

This year’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista will be hosted by the Coronado Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. The ceremony will start at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 25, and last about an hour.
